What Actually Matters
Focus • Discipline • Execution

Most decisions, in business and in life, are made in noise. Competing priorities, other people's opinions, fear of getting it wrong.

"Complexity creates confusion.
Simplicity creates execution."

The Principle Behind WAM 5

The WAM 5
A simple lens to identify What Actually Matters

"Clarity doesn't come from more information. It comes from better questions. What actually matters here? What moves the needle? What can wait? Be honest. Be disciplined. Then act on the outcome, together."

In business and in life, we try to take on and deal with far too much. We think the more we change, the better things will be — when in reality this is often not needed.

What is needed is focus, discipline and execution. The WAM 5 gives you a framework to identify the key levers that matter most — so you spend more time on fewer things, for greater impact, rather than less time on more things for a diluted result.

Context changes. The principles don't.

Focus

Be deliberate about what deserves your attention. Not everything is equally important. Treating it as if it is dilutes everything.

Discipline

Having identified your five, protect them. The noise doesn't go away. The discipline is staying anchored to what actually matters despite it.

Execution

Knowing your five is only the beginning. The difference is made in the doing. Consistently, visibly, and at every level of your organisation.

The WAM 5 Series

Every week I apply the WAM 5 principle to a different sector, scenario or leadership challenge, identifying the five things that actually drive performance in that environment. Same principle. Different context.

Bringing WAM 5
Into Your Organisation

The WAM 5 is a simple principle. Applying it honestly, under pressure, across a leadership team. That's where experience counts.

27 years of operating in complex, high-volume environments across multiple sectors and cultures gives me a perspective that is hard to replicate. I've sat in those rooms, led those teams, and made those calls. When I facilitate a WAM 5 session, I'm not reading from a framework. I'm drawing on experience that challenges your thinking and helps you land on the right five.

Mark Tucker

"Strategies are written in boardrooms. What actually matters is what happens when your team meet your customers."

Mark Tucker

I've spent 27 years running complex, high-volume operations across the UK and Middle East: theme parks, wildlife attractions, family entertainment centres, resorts, F&B, golf. In almost every environment, I saw the same thing: good people, working hard, on the wrong things.

Not because they weren't capable. Just because the noise was too loud. Too many priorities. Too many opinions. Too many initiatives running at once, each one diluting the next.

The WAM 5 has developed out of that. A simple discipline I keep referring to: think What Actually Matters to a particular situation, strip everything back, identify just the five key things to move the needle, and focus there. It works in a theme park operation. It works in a board meeting. It works in a performance review. The context changes. The principle doesn't.

I'm now eager to work with organisations and leadership teams to apply it meaningfully, through talks, workshops, audits and advisory work. If you want to cut through the noise and focus on What Actually Matters, I'd like to help.

Let's talk about
what actually matters to you.

Whether you want to explore the WAM 5 for your organisation, need an independent review of your guest experience, or want to talk through a specific challenge, I'd like to hear from you.

My background is deepest in leisure, hospitality, attractions and sport, but the principles that drive operational excellence and guest experience are universal. If your organisation interacts with customers or guests — whether you're in retail, education, healthcare, transport or anywhere else — the same fundamentals apply.

The first conversation is always straightforward. Tell me what you're trying to solve. I'll tell you honestly if and how I can help.
